Zero Carbon Technologies

The aim of Zero Carbon Technologies is to be a leading low carbon technology commercialisation accelerator. Zero Carbon Technology (ZCTx), through it Shell DevelopmenTx brand, is integrating a number of technologies with the aim of become a leading supplier of zero carbon living and working space solutions, components, systems, buildings and developments worldwide with atleast one factory to deliver these solutions outside every major city. The business was launched at the WFES in Abu Dhabi in January 2008.

In order to achieve its aim Zero Carbon Technologies has initially identified the following effective and efficient low carbon technologies to commercialise:

  • ATRTx –Active Thermoregulation Technology; Thermo regulated environments, working, living, storage, swimming, etc.
  • ESTx – Thermal and electrical energy storage technology.
  • H2OTx - Water desalination & recycling using SolarTx power that produces no toxic brine, just high value salt and water as outputs.
  • CEHTx - Controlled Environmental Horticulture Technology; food farmed under heliostats and in other confined spaces.
  • Shell ConcreTx – composite concrete technology, an alternative to cementitious steel reinforced concretes combines extremely high strength to weight ratios with good acoustic, thermal and fire insulating properties. In order to form Shell ConcreTx a licence to use an electrotextile called ETX is required to make H-E-A-Tx thermovacuum forming workstations that can press Shell ConcreTx panels any shape, form, texture and colour that include the building services within the ducting in the panels.
  • SolarTx - Concentrated solar power to thermal and electrical energy technology.
  • Shell DevelopmenTx– A environmentally friendly brand for the development and construction of Zero Carbon living, working and transportation “space” incorporating the above technology.
  • Carbon Offsetting of the remaining co2e pollution in indigenous forest replanting, and other more active offset projects to make each of the above technologies/ businesses carbon neutral, i.e. zero carbon.
